Günter Eberle

Günter Eberle

Little is known about the former head of the Thonet architecture department in Frankenberg. Except for one extensive paper he wrote in 1956 titled “Information on advertising, design and construction” – a set of working instructions for the product development and marketing areas – there are very few documents and information from or about him.

What remains of him are various furniture designs he created during his time at Thonet – some of which were award winning. His malleable design for the S 661 moulded plywood chair, with its elegantly curved seat shell, was awarded a silver medal at the Triennale design exhibition in Milan in 1954, and also went on to win the iF Product Design Award in the same year.
