Iconic tubular steel classics for the home office

Where we work and how we work are in constant flux. The established boundaries of old between our home and our place of work are becoming increasingly blurred. For many of us, working from home has become a regular part of our jobs. Within this new world of work, classic furniture from Thonet helps create an atmosphere of clarity, calm and stability, so that we can work at home with focus and concentration.

For her home office in Bern, Switzerland, Camille Montavon chose two iconic tubular steel designs by Marcel Breuer. The compact S 285 desk has a light, yet solid look and is perfect for concentrated work at home. Its stained wood tabletop and drawers appear to float on the light, elegant tubular steel frame. The ever-popular S 32 tubular steel cantilever chair – also designed by Marcel Breuer – is ergonomic and beautiful, and the perfect match. When first created, both of these classic pieces combined old and new: Viennese canework and wooden elements embodied tradition, while the incorporation of tubular steel was a nod to the future of furniture design.
