Tobys Estate

Jumeirah

Gourmet coffee creations paired with tubular steel classics from Thonet

Toby’s Estate, a speciality coffee roaster from Australia, has opened its second coffee house in Dubai. Known for creating an exceptional coffee experience, Toby’s Estate is located in an imposing villa in the Dubai district of Jumeirah. In addition to exclusive coffee varieties, customers can also enjoy select dishes and pastries. “Our goal is not simply to create a new coffee destination, but rather an unforgettable experience and a welcoming space for all,” explains Tareq Alshaikh, co-founder and CEO of the Pinnacle Group, investor and partner of Toby’s Estate.

Visitors can relax and enjoy an exquisite cup of coffee here in this multi-storey villa with its elegantly designed interior. The windows and mirrors inside the coffee shop pick up on the arches in the building’s façade, flooding the space with light and airiness. Light-coloured natural stone is used in the flooring, wall coverings and counters, which lends the space an air of luxury. Black, white and green accents break up the natural colour scheme, adding balance to the interior. The coffee shop’s seating has been carefully chosen, and the stars of the show are Thonet’s iconic S 32 cantilever chairs. The classic chairs’ simplicity and reduced aesthetics, alongside their olive-green seat upholstery and airy canework backrest, make them the perfect choice for the shop’s high-end look.

The S 32 cantilever chair and the S 64 version with armrests are among the most well-known tubular steel classics. Marcel Breuer designed both models in 1928 during his time in Berlin, and they have been manufactured by Thonet since 1930. Their popularity stems from the appealing combination of something new and something tried and tested: the seat and backrest made of bent solid wood with canework embody the Thonet tradition of bending wood, while the tubular steel frame, which was revolutionary for its time, is still as current and modern today.

The versions selected for the new Toby’s Estate coffee house in Dubai fit perfectly in the elegant interior design: their wooden elements made of lightened beech reflect the colours of the natural stone used in the space, and the upholstery in olive-green synthetic ThonetMed® leather with black piping complements the green and black accents used throughout the interior. With their comfortable upholstery, these tubular steel classics make it difficult for coffee-lovers to resist ordering another cup. ThonetMed® synthetic leather is barely distinguishable from real leather due to its natural look and feel. It is exceptionally low-maintenance and durable, making it an ideal choice for restaurants.
