Landenberghaus

LANDENBERGHAUS GREIFENSEE

The newly constructed Landenberghaus in the Swiss municipality of Greifensee – right on the lake of the same name and only a few kilometres from Zurich – combines centuries of history with modern furnishings. The palais, built in the middle of the 13th century, was last renovated in the 1970s and no longer met the standards for the current fire code. Moreover, the use of the building needed to be adapted to suit the requirements of the local council. An architectural competition was therefore initiated in 2011. The new Landenberghaus was meant to become a cultural centre for social life in Greifensee. Heritage protection authorities, local associations and the competition winners, Holsberger Wegen Architekten GmbH and Stehrenberger Architektur GmbH, all worked together on the project: instead of renovating, the council decided on an almost entirely new building, which would incorporate the historical side walls and the adjoining parsonage. The building that was created is understated but modern and blends harmoniously with the character of the city while providing a venue for concerts, large gatherings and celebrations of all kinds.

The inside of the Landenberghaus is characterised by its high walls with exposed brick, large windows and light wood floors and panelling. Consistent with the contrast between old and new, the large function suite has 225 Thonet S 262 PV chairs with beige-grey upholstery and magnetic seat numbering. The furniture selected by interior designer Katharina Stehrenberger fulfils the strict standards for modern event seating as well as the aesthetic and functional demands of contemporary design. Thanks to its simplified linking mechanism, which makes it easy to link and quickly assemble and disassemble the rows, the chairs can be arranged to save space in the rooms. When the seating is no longer needed, the S 262 PV chairs can be stacked vertically (A-frame). There are 18 stacking trolleys (S 2628) that can be used so that the chairs can be stored behind the built-in wooden sliding doors when not in use.
