GRAND CAFE CAPITAL IN ANTWERP

The Grand Cafe Capital in Antwerp can look back on an eventful history and today convinces with its colourful concept: soon after the opening of the former Cafe Capital, it was hard to imagine Antwerp’s nightlife without it. However, due to a serious fire in 2010, the café was closed for nine long years – during which time the owner, Anthony Van Isacker, was able to gain a lot of new experience. Strengthened with new knowledge, he reopened his café following extensive renovation work under the name Grand Cafe Capital and with an expanded offer. In addition to the famous bar, party and concert operations, the café is now open during the day. Whether used for business lunches, a children’s café or an after-work meeting place, the Grand Cafe Capital, like its menu, is diversified and attracts young and older guests with its terrace, club room and event hall in the centre of Antwerp’s municipal park.

The creative agency Going East developed the modern interior design that allows the Grand Cafe Capital to shine with new splendour. The style – reminiscent of the former Grand Cafe but now with Japanese influences – is characterised by black, red and white accentuations, as well as by plants and wooden elements. Matching this style, a total of 30 Thonet chairs are distributed throughout the interior: the chairs 118 and 118 M designed by Sebastian Herkner were used. With their minimalistic yet elegant design, they gracefully fit in with the spatial context. The version in black stained beech underlines the colour concept, and the selection of different seats – moulded seat and classic cane work – create a varied look.
