The design for the 1025 side table has been deliberately stripped back, letting its structure take centre stage. The table's three legs, tapered towards the bottom and arranged at regular intervals of 120 degrees, trace an imaginary circle on the floor. On the tabletop itself, the legs appear as three perfectly flushed circles. The different grain patterns of the three table legs create an additional visual contrast with the tabletop. Depending on how the table is positioned, the angle of its legs also helps create a different look.
“The aim was to create a sort of ‘lightbulb moment’. The playful design sparks curiosity and gives the table a sculptural quality – a statement piece for your own living space,” explains James Van Vossel, describing his design.
The 1025 side table embodies the combination of innovative design and precision craftsmanship for which Thonet has always been renowned. It is made of solid wood and is available in ash, oak or walnut. Measuring 48 cm in height and 45 cm in diameter, it is a versatile piece that looks as good in a private living room as it does in high-end public spaces.
Ten years after its launch, the 1025 side table has lost none of its design appeal. Its inclusion in the design collection of Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum in 2021 is further proof of its quality, demonstrating that timeless design is not driven by trends, but by a compelling idea, precision and high-quality craftsmanship – principles that have shaped Thonet’s approach to design for over 200 years.
