Home tour with Theo-Bert Pot

Theo-Bert Pot - @theobert_pot on instagram - is a well known interior designer, graphic designer, stylist, content maker/influencer and TV presenter for Binnenstebuiten, a Dutch TV program. He lives with his partner Jelle in an apartment in The Hague, the Netherlands. In 2015 Theo-Bert started to use Instagram to inspire people by sharing images of his office and his home. His colourful and bold style is a big inspiration to many. He calls himself ‘The Nice Stuff Collector’, but where did his passion for interior design come from?

Tell us a little about yourself!

With a study in Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague and a passion for ‘nice stuff’, my love for interior design and styling was born. Our design studio and our home give a good idea of my style. In 2015 I started to use instagram to inspire others to mix & match and to not be afraid of colours. I soon had many followers who responded very positively to my style, the colours I use and the products I love. Many beautiful collaborations and projects followed. Sharing my passion for interiors, for styling and design is something I love to do and I consider myself very lucky.

What are your priorities when it comes to the interior design for your apartment?

Colour is key in every design I make. Colour gives depth and provides the basis for every interior. I am a big supporter of creating soft contrasts by using colours, always with the goal to make every item in your interior look amazing. I am a big fan of beautiful designs that last a lifetime and longer. For our apartment I was looking for beautiful chairs that were not just timeless and sustainable, but also very comfortable, perfect for long dinners. The beautiful collection of Thonet with so many design icons offered exactly this. The chairs look amazing, are perfect to mix & match and are available in many colours. I love the different colours, finishes and shapes and the combination of bentwood and tubular steel that Thonet is famous for.

Where did you first encounter Thonet furniture and why did you choose our chairs?

I have known Thonet for a very long time! When I was young, my parents bought the S 64 chairs, designed by Marcel Breuer as dining table chairs. It is still one of my favorite Thonet models and I love that it is now also at our home around the dining room table. I combined it with chair 118 in high gloss, designed by Sebastian Herkner and design icon 209 in a beautiful stained green colour. In our living room the Lounge version of model 118, model 119 in high gloss pink is a real eyecatcher. What I love about these chairs, is that wherever I use them in our home, they always look great and create a different vibe. They easily adjust to any room or setting and they are extremely photogenic!

Which Thonet pieces are still on your wishlist?

There are so many Thonet designs on my wishlist that it is difficult to choose. Once a Thonet fan, always a Thonet fan. If I have to pick, I choose bentwood model 210 and 215 with a leather seat and backrest. This combination not just looks great, it also offers great comfort.
