From 26 to 29 October 2025, Thonet will showcase the versatile uses of its tubular steel furniture at the exhibition space in the Design Post Cologne, as part of idd cologne. In addition to the signature collection JS . THONET A PERSONAL INTERPRETATION BY JIL SANDER, the reissued S 179 bar trolley by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe will also be on display. A special highlight of the event will be the exclusive premiere of a new product.
Jil Sander‘s collaboration with Thonet is her first foray into the world of furniture design. With the JS . THONET signature collection, she has taken the most famous tubular steel classics from the late 1920s and put her own stamp on them. With their luxurious reinterpretations, both lines – NORDIC and SERIOUS – celebrate the classic S 64 and B 97, highlighting the ground-breaking design of the originals while elevating every last detail with utmost care and sensitivity.
The bar trolley S 179, created by legendary architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, is a shining example of the design principles “less is more” and “form follows function”. The elegant tubular steel design is characterised by a refined structure with a centred, symmetrical composition. It was first produced in the 1930s and has now been relaunched at a somewhat larger scale to meet the demands of contemporary life.
