From its location atop a hill, the Baden-Württemberg chamber of architects offers a panoramic view of Stuttgart. Inside, the chamber’s FORUM House of architects serves as an event and meeting venue. From conferences and symposiums to internal continuing-education seminars and workshops, the building, which was designed by architect Michael Weinel in 1993, hosts around 400 events each year. With three halls, two seminar rooms, a canteen and a garden with a terrace, the FORUM is a prime space for events, accommodating up to 185 guests.

The canteen was recently given a remodel, for which interior designer Bettina Kampe selected more than 100 Thonet chairs from the 118 product range. Even before this, the canteen had featured classic Thonet bentwood chairs (210 R). These had been in use for years but were still in good shape, so the contracted architectural firm sold them to antique dealers and via a website specialising in classic furniture. 
The canteen now features the elegant 118 wooden chairs and the matching barstool version, the 118 H, both created by renowned German designer Sebastian Herkner. Together, these chairs give the canteen a modern, minimalist look. Featuring seats of natural Viennese canework, the chairs fit in harmoniously with the parquet flooring and the light, natural wood tables. The black-stained chair frames create visual accents throughout the room that match the table legs, a leather upholstered bench and the dark window frames. Just like their lower counterparts, the new barstools are also stained black and feature a canework seat. The new, elegantly understated chairs offer incredible seating comfort for a variety of event formats and fit in perfectly with the clear lines and aesthetics of the venue.
