In 2004 he was the guest of honour at the fair Interieur in Kortrijk and was also elected Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts in London. In 2007 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Design from Kingston University. His design studio in Milan has worked and works with various internationally renowned companies including Arper, Artemide, B&B Italia, MDF Italia, Mercedes Benz, Muji, Olivari, Offecct, Phaidon, Thonet, WMF and Zumtobel. James Irvine designed numerous products for Thonet (A 660, A 1660, S 5000, S 123, S 1123) and advised the company from 2007-2011 in the position of art director. Today, Studio Irvine is run by his partner Marialaura Rossiello Irvine.
