Exhibition "Model Bauhaus"
The exhibition "Model Bauhaus" in the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin was opened on July 21. It focuses on the comprehensive importance of the Bauhaus for the development and internationalization of modernism and picks out its global effect on architecture and design as a central theme (until 4 October 2009).
Thonet supports this exhibition and, at the occasion of the 90th Bauhaus anniversary, produces a special edition of the classic S 43
by Mart Stam, who was a
guest lecturer at the Bauhaus in 1928/29.

Exhibition "Thonet Tubular Steel Classics"
The exhibition "Thonet Tubular Steel Classics" at the stilwerk Berlin presents icons of tubular steel furniture and informs about the history of their development. Bauhaus teachers and designers influenced by the Bauhaus experimented with the material tubular steel, which was new for furniture design, in the 1920s. Their designs are considered milestones in furniture history. Thonet was a partner from the beginning and has been producing many
models from
that time to date.

New products: Marcel Breuer's designs from the 1920 were the patrons for this classic and elegant side furniture. Its frame consists
of chrome plated tubular steel, the wooden elements are available varnished or stained in beech.

"Table" at the Kunsthalle Schirn
Thonet in the "Table" at the Schirn
Kunsthalle Frankfurt. A new restaurant
project based on continual changes.
Israeli designer Nitzan Cohen has fully
redesigned the approx. 360 square meter
large space and refurnished it. Flexible
elements enable architects and designers
to provide the spaces with a new ambience
in regular intervals. – Currently, Thonet is
represented with the bentwood classics
model 209 and with barstools.

At the Pitti fashion trade fair in Florence in June, the Spanish manufacturer Preventi presented all of its new products on our chairs no. 214 – very unusual and surprising. Preventi has an interesting blog on its website entitled "Global Nomads" in which Peter Thonet recently was an interview partner.

Trainee project
Thonet trainee project "flying chairs." Seeing and experiencing Thonet in a new way, from the perspective of the young trainee team – this was the subject of an internal workshop. Obviously, the quality and durability of our products is their central motif. The story dating back to 1900, when a Thonet bentwood chair survived the crash from the first platform on the Eiffel Tower (c. 57 m) before the furniture of the café without any damage, served as the inspiration for a short film.
