On 22 September 2011, Thonet opened its newest dedicated store in ‘THE SQUAIRE', 660 meter long and the new core at Frankfurt airport. ‘THE SQUAIRE' is located above the ICE international terminal, presenting a magnet for the many visitors to Germany's largest airport who will be working, shopping, relaxing and availing themselves of the conference facilities. The decision behind this strategic move is part of a drive to raise the brand's market profile and expand Thonet's international business.

Thonet has extended the successful 404 collection with two new and distinctive designs: the 405 PF and the 406 PF padded armchairs, furniture that provides relaxing seating comfort for the home as well as for hotels, restaurants and bars.

The conversion of the Goethe-Institut in Kyoto into the Villa Kamogawa artists’ residence, a home to scholarship holders from the areas of art, architecture, design and literature, was completed in April this year. Part of the furniture comes from the Frankenberg-based Thonet company.

With its new S 1300 Table System, Thonet presents an intelligent solution for both the contract and office sector. The Berlin-based Delphin Design Studio has developed a functional table system with a patented technique that allows the legs to be screwed into the worktop without using any tools. Entire table systems can be set up and disassembled quickly and securely.

The current Thonet executive management with Peter Thonet and Karl-Heinz Gloe has proven successful in tackling the most difficult of tasks. Therefore the Thonet advisory board has confirmed the current management team until at least 31 December 2012.
