At this year's imm cologne (16 to 22 January 2012), for the first time Thonet will exhibit in the Pure Village area, located in Hall 3. In four cubes, each with a floor area of 16 m2, the German furniture manufacturer will show four distinct suggestions for typical Thonet living spaces that are quite different in ambience and expression and that feature popular, classic designs with a new twist, as well as the latest pieces from the Thonet collection. The new Pure Materials series comprises Thonet classics by Marcel Breuer and others that have been produced using new materials: nickel-plated steel tubing, full grain Nubuck leather and oiled wood lend these design icons an individual quality.

At imm cologne 2012, Thonet will show famous design classics by Marcel Breuer in new and very special designs. As of now, the S 32 and S 64 cantilever chairs, as well as the B9 a-d set of side tables, are available in nickel-plated tubular steel, oiled wood and a distinct, full-grain leather. ‘Pure Materials' is the name of the new series that lends well-known pieces a very individual character. Each of the design classics from the Pure Materials series tells its own story of how beautiful and long-lasting objects have been used. Thonet plans to produce other classic pieces and designs from the Thonet programme, using the new materials.

Originally designed as a custom commission, the superior quality of the 107 chair has now earned a place in the Thonet collection. With this chair, the Paris-based Austrian designer Robert Stadler has created an object that combines elegance and stability with a lightweight feel. The chair was originally designed for the Corso restaurant near the Bastille in Paris, which was opened in the autumn of 2011. As a contemporary re-interpretation of a design classic, the 107 playfully references the famous 214 coffeehouse chair. Continuing Thonet's longstanding tradition, it is especially suited for use in restaurants and cafés, whilst also being an ideal piece of furniture for private dining areas.

Utrecht, 25. November 2011 - Gestern Abend wurde auf dem Rotterdamer RDM-Campus Bin Xu mit seinem Box Chair zum Gewinner des Mart-Stam-Preises 2011 gekürt. Der Designpreis, mit dem innovative Stuhlentwürfe für den Objekt- und den Verbrauchermarkt gefördert werden sollen, wurde zum fünften Mal von der Thonet-Geschäftsleitung und der Redaktion der Fachzeitschrift „De Architect" vergeben. Dotiert ist er mit 5000 Euro und einer eigens entworfenen Trophäe. Zudem wird das prämierte Modell in die EXP Collection von Thonet aufgenommen. Neu in diesem Jahr: Die Entwürfe mussten den Anforderungen für die Standardkollektion von Thonet genügen und damit auch von Thonet produziert werden können.

With an inspirational presentation concept, Thonet will be part of the premiere of Qubique, to take place from 26 to 29 October 2011 at the former Berlin Tempelhof airport. The furniture manufacturer will present an environment that focuses on the topics of logistics, transport and cargo at an airport. A modern living room set up in an original Thonet box truck will form the heart of the presentation. A multitude of packaging boxes flow down the box truck in a curved line, crossing the booth in a diagonal direction and ending up in a bar set-up that serves as a meeting point for discussions and exchange between visitors.
